Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will defend himself in a televised address to the nation Monday and will not resign from office despite the threat of impeachment, a presidential aide told AFP. “There is no chance of resignation. He will defend himself against the allegations and defend his position,” the aide said on condition of anonymity. Musharraf’s spokesman, retired Major General Rashid Qureshi, earlier also dismissed television reports of a possible resignation, saying: “It is all nonsense.” Pakistan’s governing coalition said on Sunday that it had finalised impeachment charges against Musharraf, who seized power in a 1999 coup, and would file them in parliament this week. source: AFP
