Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman said on Thursday that impeachment of the President was a heart and mind decision of the ruling coalition. Talking to GEO News, she said coalition partners’ struggle for strengthening of democratic institutions was making history in the country.

She said the country was passing through a ‘decisive moment’ and PPP’s role in the present situation would be remembered in good words in history of Pakistan.

Sherry Rehman said PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had hinted time and again that if the democratic institutions were not allowed to work freely, then such action could be taken.

She said PPP believed in politics of reconciliation and efforts would be made for smooth transition to ensure supremacy of the parliament and rule of law as enunciated in the Constitution of 1973 and Charter of Democracy.

To a question, she said PPP and PMLN had never accepted Pervez Musharraf as constitutional president.

The Minister said people voted the democratic forces in February 18 elections and coalition partners were unanimous on impeachment of the President.

The government is in comfort as it has the required number for impeachment of the President, she added.

She vowed that PPP would make utmost efforts for political stability and strengthening of democratic institutions in the country.

To another question, she said a US official has given the statement that impeachment of the President was internal matter of Pakistan.
