Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani condemned an attack on a military parade attended by Afghan President Hamid Karzai that killed three people, including an MP, officials said on Sunday. “I strongly condemn the attack on the ceremony commemorating the 16th anniversary of the mujahideen victory in Afghanistan…We are greatly relieved and grateful to Allah that no harm has come to His Excellency Hamid Karzai,” said the prime minister. “In this hour we stand by our Afghan brothers and sisters and fully share their resolve to defeat the common enemy and overcome the challenge of terrorism and extremism,” he added. Karzai and the host of cabinet ministers and foreign diplomats on the stage at the ceremony at the time of the attack escaped unhurt. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack but denied that Sunday’s incident was an assassination attempt on the Afghan president.
