Pakistani ex-premier Nawaz Sharif returned home from exile Sunday vowing to end “dictatorship” in his country and to campaign for democracy.

“I am here to play my role and also make my own efforts to rid the country of dictatorship,”
Sharif said while talking to a UK-based news channel by mobile telephone from aboard his plane after he landed in Lahore.

He pledged to restore the rule of law and the constitution and to strengthen democracy. “We want democracy, nothing else,” he said.

He appeared to rule out working with Musharraf, saying that “we have a different agenda to his agenda”.

Sharif also refused to say whether his party would boycott upcoming elections, saying that the decision would be made by APDM.

“I am very happy to be back, it is the best moment of my life,” senior party aides quoted him as saying.

He and his brother were later lifted onto the shoulders of the crowd and then stood atop a car waving to their party workers.- [via TheNews]

this is the most sadest moment in the history of pakistan that two of the most corrupt policticians r finally back in pakistan ….. Musharraf is way better than these two corrupt leadersss…God save our country and people

  2. SBE Says:

No the saddest moment was when this clown of dictator Mush told the whole world that people of Pakistan can’t govern themselves and are not fit for democracy. Whre he thinks he comes from the uneducted man who can’t speak Englsih!
Musharraf whenever he opens his mouth is big joke in all over the world and is emabrassming Pakistan. He is the sad person. atriotic Pakistanis want to build system and build future.
I choose corrupt politicians over corrupt General for our future!

  3. NiNi Says:

SBE, i agree with your comments. That we have to respect the corrupt democrecy over any sort of dictatorship. Even a corrupt democracy ultimatly mature a nation to choose who is the best to rule. But a dictator is a dictator. Now the decision is who is comparetively better among all the corrupt leadership. My vote will be to Imran Khan & Nawaz Sharif. Let the democracy prevail in any situation. May Allah bless this country & nation. Amen

  4. Asim Kaleem Says:

I don’t know what kind of level of fluency in English we expect from our politicians or leaders. Any one who can speak and understand easily is o.k. If west has no objection than why we??? Rest its true, we have to try new options like Imran Khan as the previous two and this Musharraf are can’t be trusted anymore.

  5. imran Says:

well… one should not ignore musharraf’s efforts in bringing good name on pakistan … i guess most of you people are living in pakistan and you are passing comments just like that but peo[ple like me who are living abroad, for us musharraf is a good leader.. there are soo many big major scams happened during benazir and nawaz pm-ship
i still think he is the best for pakistan.. and imran khan is a laugh … he was failed to control his wife, how come he will be able to control pakistan … no hard feelingsss… thanx

  6. SBE Says:

If you think that Mush has brought good name to Pakistan you must be living on different planet. You know in all intl papers he is seen as incompetent dictator. Read Economist or Transparency Intl from Germany or New York Times or Washington Post. Also check Le Monde or Figaro if you understand French. He is making country thought of as Banana Republic and Failed State. This is his legacy and he has dome more to destroy Pak than any corrupt politcian. World does not respect dictatorship despite what some brainwash people in Pak think. Dictaor makes people think whole nation is backward to be ruled by man speaking like Mush.I have lived abroad and Pak for last 10 years so I can give you view in both places. Abroad Mush is a total joke and only has support among Karachiites for narrow ethnic reasons only- not for love of country.
Imran Khan is respected by many segments of Pakistan not for ethnic reasons but for his genuine care for country. It takes a real loser to talk about his ex wife or past life and say he can’t lead becoz of that. Clinto was good president and no one cared about his cheating on wife becoz he was good for country. What matters is if he can do the job. Our people don’t learn and just point finger. Everyone know Mush drinks excessievely and has bad personal charcter but most want him out becasue he is destroying country and not becoz he is drinker. I guess you hate him only becoz he is big alcholic.

  7. imran Says:

ahhh come on i am discussing with an openminded person whereas you are discussing having anti mush feelings… he has done good job and just bcoz he is etnically a mohajir doesnt justify that a punjabi nawaz and sindhi bhutto have done great favours to anyone .. look at the progress in pakistan and i bet most of teh youth community is very happy and i m very much sure about it … and imran khan is a pathan doesnt mean that he is a way better … please dont compare imran with clinton pls … that is a big joke… clinton or any of teh leader in the west dont take dictation they only dictate whras our people do have to listen bcoz 1. we dont have OIL 2. we are an exporting county and 80% of our export goes to the west .. and we do have to take their business interest and ours too in mind soo pls b an openminded … imran khan is one of the guy who supported mush in 2002 and now he is changing his stance coz he wants to b a big fish and nothin else.. even his own party leaders are confused about imran’s behaviour… he talks different in pak and acts different abroad… sooo have this in mind plsss… thank you

How in today’s day and age anyone can think that a military dictatorship is better than a democracy is beyond me. As for this excuse of “corruption” - there is corruption even among politicians in the USA (many of whom are doing time in jail). Does anyone seriously argue that for this reason an army officer should be put in charge of the US?

How in today’s day and age anyone can think that a military dictatorship is better than a democracy is beyond me.

  10. imran Says:

hmm well 1st of all i have never said that dictatorship is better than democracy but what i am saying is that mush is a better and less corrupt leader than benazir and nawaz…

  11. Asim Kaleem Says:

Mush may not be a corrupt leader but he’s a heartless dictator who never bothers killing his own countryemen just to endorse his so called enlighten moderation. This makes him even worst than B.B & N.S. He’s actually the Pharoah of present time.

  12. SBE Says:

Anyone with even a little intellect can understand that having any polical system is better than dictatorship. I wnet to work today where foreigners were openly making fun of Pakistan’s political problems and Musharraf. You say you live abroad- do you not admit that he is seen as clown with no power becasue in West and developed country having dictator makes country look insecure, weak, failed state and Banana Republic. All the things which Mush has done.Again I would choose corrupt politician over corrupt dictator any day becasue there is hope for system. Yes in USA and Europe most pliticians are also corrupt but there is system with check and balances. That’s what Mush doesn;t want becasue it interferes with Military looting and power. He has taken professional army and made it joke. Most youth in Pakistan support Imran Khan- not becasue he is Pashtun but becasue he has shown genuine love for coutnry and our dignity. He wants proud independent modern and developed Pakistan. If you don’t like Nawaz becasue he is Kashmiri/Punjabi or Benzair becasue she is Sindi or Musharraf is great becasue he is Muhajir I don;t want to debate with you because we should do what is best for Pakistan and grow up about who comes from what province. People want real progres and don;t care about that, especially the youths. If you think arny is so good to rule write a book and tell devloped countriies citizens to kick out democracy and become dictators. See how many listen to you and your Mush type arguments- no one.

  13. Asim Kaleem Says:

Yes True SBE, at least in these time of crisis we should not bring in the ethnicity of any one, we are simply Pakistani now, its now 60 years of this nation (ALHAMDOLLILAH) and here only Pakistani live and no one is Muhajir, Sndhi, Punjabi etc

  14. imran Says:

well the problem is that u guys bring in some arguments that do reflect people’s thinkin but they r in minority…. and i m talking about majority :P ahh well man after Khulfa-e-rashideen tell me whn the democracy came in our muslim countries?? ottoman empire , mughal empire , abbasid empire, name any empire they were not democartics but they have a legacy and ya when they were harsh at their people then they crumbled or attacked by their own muslim rulers …. please have a broader perspective rather thinking about western style democraciess and all that fantasiess u have in ur mind ….

  15. SBE Says:

No body has a fantasy. We have dream about making a modern civil society in Pakistan like the lawyer who fought to give us Pakistan wanted for us. Yes Jinnah was a consitutional lawyer too and believed in rule of law and system. Pakistan was not work of Generals but of people who believed in civil society. Western people had more corrupt Kings and Empires before they learned about developuing political systems. Indians culture is about caste but they learned about democracy and system. You just like Mush who believes Pakistanis are all backward and only army has intelliegence so has right to break every law and take all US billions in aid for self.
Yes young generation in Pakistan want modern system for Pakistan too and we can do it- regardless of those people who want Pakistan to be backward like your Generals and uneducated Mush.

  16. imran Says:

ahaa wait he is not only my general but urs and 160 million ppl’s as well… ok.. well my friend mush is saying give me the chance to have a transaction of democracy smoothly then we will see how things wil work .. yeaa well true lawyers were great and nov.3rd judges were the great and i also accept that they should b reinstated but u have to give mush a chance pls.. oriteee..

  17. Adil Says:

I don’t know whether this would make any difference but I see it a smart move by Lums students to make our politicians feel our presence. Bombardment of Boycott favored views may do the impossible and PPP leadership get convince to set away for this fraud which we all know would be ‘selection’, contacts of PPP leaders can be found at http://pakistanmartiallaw.blogspot.com

In a similar effort, I find some of the PML N contacts and have verified them personally by talking to these people, it’s worth dropping them a text or a call.
