PPP to resign if Musharraf does not quit army before election

Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Punjab President Shah Mahmood Qurieshi said on Saturday that PPP laewmakers would resign from national and provincial assemblies if President General Pervez Musharraf did not resign as chief of army staff before the presidential election.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of Abdul Qadir Shaheen, he said that the PPP would file a petition in the Supreme Court after the decision of the chief election commissioner about the participation and eligibility of Musharraf in the presidential election. He said that a historic decision would be made in the PPP’s Central Executive Committee meeting scheduled to be held on October 3 in London.

He strongly condemned the torture the police inflicted on lawyers, journalists and political workers in Islamabad and termed it severe state terrorism.

He said the party ticket for the upcoming general election has not been awarded to any candidate nor any announcement or final decision has been made so far in this regard. He said that a meeting is being held to remove the differences of the local PPP organization in Bahawalpur.- [News via DailyTimes]
