‘Khuda Kay Liye’ has been Banned

[digg=http://digg.com/movies/In_the_name_of_God_has_been_Banned]Previously i wrote the article that, the movie Khuda Kay Liye has a very good script. In fact i was wrong, very wrong. The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been moved for banning screening of a film produced by Pakistan,India, and US. Advocate MD Tahir moved the LHC, pleading for a stay against the exhibition of Khuda Kay Liya or in the name of God in Pakistani circuit till virdict of the petition. The petitioner submitted that the film is full of ‘objectionable’ material and will add fuel to the wave of terrorism in the country. The petition reffered to a report in an Urdu daily, submitted that Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah, performing a Muslim scholar in the film states that music is permitted in Islam and Hazrat Dawood (AS) was a good singer. In another act, scholar states that Islam permits marriage of a Muslim girl with a Christian man. The petition says India has banned the film on the ground that it will injure sentiments of Muslims in the country while US has refused to exhibit it in the local circuit for its poor script. He submitted that film attacks Islam and respondents — the federal government, Film Cencor Board chairman, film producer and the pakistan Electronic Regulatory chairman — have failed to perform their duties. The petitioner asked the court to declare exhibition of the film illegal, unconstitutional, malafide, against interest of the nation and a conspiracy to deteriorate the law and order situation in Pakistan, and prayed that its exhibition in the country be banned. hi guys………………..i dont think that this movie should be banned. Its a new and good step towards good cenima.let people watch the movie and give there verdict…………………let people decide that it contains objectionable material or not……………..

After reading the comments from shoaib mansoor for his film that he is saying islam allows music and singing ,after that i think we should check that either he is muslim or not ? i think better we use our precious time to check this & should not waste our time to watch this unislamic stuff ……..ok namrah we cannot put our faith in danger.

When the contents are unislamic in the movie, and some contents are objectionable, does it also mean that we should watch it and then comment on it ?

For God’s sake guys…
Dont get hyper before you know anything……..Thats the problem with us Pakistanis……We think commenting is our obligation on ALL that goes around….Keep ur precious comments private…….I havent watched the movie, but as far as reviews go, some ppl are loving it while some r not……..So if u really concerned abt whats cooking in the movie, then watch it, otherwise, keep ur mouths closed………..
P.S : Is the Muslims faith that much weak that a single movie can put them in danger????????……Lolz…………. (With special reference to mr.Bilal)

There are various schools of thought within Islam. Each has a different take on music. There is unanimity on two points:
1)No school approves of musical instruments during Hamd (praise of God). However, the singing of Hamds can be very musical and melodious. There have over the centuries been several Hamds accompanied by instruments without causing offence to anyone. Still, I would recommend avoiding instruments during Hamd.
ii)No school forbids singing secular songs. There have, for instance, been wedding songs in all Islamic cultures.
That leaves Naat (songs for the Holy Prophet, pbuh) and Manqabat (songs for other saints). Not only in Pakistan and South Asia but also in Turkey, parts of Central Asia and North Africa these have been very popular. Indeed, such religious songs have taken the message of Islam to the illiterate masses.
If we ban such songs the propagation of Islam will become that much more difficult.
The Chishtis converted 20% of South Asia to Islam. Songs were their most potent means. My friend Bilal, please tell me, were they not Muslims?

Well agreed with parvez, Sufism in the sub-continent was very famous, which converted masses into Islam. Songs have types. There are also songs which teach the people about the laws of Islam.

As far as I now the film has not been banned , in fact it is running all across the country to packed houses according to media reports. As far as the objectionable matter is concerned it should commented on only after watching the movie.

Are all the movies, music, TV dramas, stage dramas, and everything else on our screens through cable television and internet (mujras and pronographiy)…islamic? if not then lets just give the guy and good cinema a chance…plus when was the last time a movie changed the nation’s religious views or put out great religion in danger? hehehehe…take it easy kids…ban to cable pay lagna chahiyay ;))

Some Muslims think that we have to save Islam, and in order to save Islam we have to modify it according to present times. But please KNOW!!!! that you will not save Islam … Islam will save you…. God wants you to follow Islam on Hiz terms …. if you will change Islam according to your fancies then it will only be an idol created by your own mind… some thing that will let you sleep well at night may be… but worthless in the sight of God.
Every like loves hiz like and therein finds pleasure… so those who are lost will love what is wrong…Islam is serious only if you believe in day of judgment… infect you can test if you believe in hereafter or not this way
we all are being tested with these events…what you see, what you hear and what you judge and say… all recorded … any thing you say will be used for or against you one day…
if you do not even think in your heart that wrong is wrong and should be stopped ….then you should not worry about the movie you should go and learn about Islam… and not subcontinent musical Islam… real Islam which was taught to us by rasool Allah salalaho alehe wasallam.

Everybody is going angry on hearing that “Film say Music is not Forbidden in Islam”.Yes it is true.There are som Ahadith in Sahi Bukhari Regarding this.But Alas Mullah Never allow us to read it.Because hi SIASAT is MUSIC & Women.And Imam Ghazali one of the renowned Scholar of Islam in His Famous book Ahya ul Oloom has a full Chapter about Music.
When Peoples are telling about music is forbidden They always provide poor refrence are no refrence.But When their is a refrence about Music s not forbidden in Islam We began pointing Fingers to him/Her.
If you have any concern pls write me I will provide you the refrence.

To anyone who is negatively commenting on the film without watching it. You are destined to burn in hell…. coz you are spreading rumours without knowing anything or getting to the bottom of things.
Mullahs WANT no one to watch this movie as it tells the truth about them. Mullah think they are holier than thou and all other Muslims are heretics. Its time the real Muslims get up and kill these stupid Mullahs who are the biggest enemies of Real Islam.
How many who are commenting over the movie have actually gone and studied the Hadees mentioned in the movie? How many of you have actually read Quran in a language you understand?
I say these Mullah Islamic Fundamentalists are Non-Muslims and should be kicked out of Pakistan. Other minorities have better morals and faith than these Satan worshipper Mullahs.

U think u know all bout islam? Well u know what i think? I’f u were so islamic u wouldnt even be on the computer! Cos there are all these things to tempt men.
And women. WHAT? i aint sexist man! If these karachi courts of islam were so islamic they wouldnt wath the movie, even if it was to find out what it was about and neither if they were so islamic listen to anything bout movies! So how do they know? They who you’d think try to ban the movie cos they are muslims.And how would they know bout this anyway eh? If they cant listen to movie talk or watch movies cos islam forbids it how shal they know? They are not prized so abov others that god sends them the whole movie into their brain or tells them all that happened! We are eqeul. I know i cant spell properly im 12. Allah/God is happy with us the way we are as long as we believe in him from our hearts. Come on Allah cant expect all humans to follow evry single rule. Like take my cousin for example. He is deaf and therefore has not been taught anything much bout islam. But he still knows about Allah and loves him. So get over it u fools.
By a 12 yr old girl who has not been taught much about islam and is muslim, but has improvised all her life. She knows Allah loves us all and forgives no matter what. She knows this film was made to try and show what is happening in islam cos muslims are being ignorant. It is because of the terrorists that we have been given a bad name. Cos they done what they done we have to pay for it, but thats how life goes. And in Islam Allah is in control of destiny and the world so if he didnt want the film out it wouldnt be there. its there for a reason man, be it good or be it bad, each thing leads to something else simialr or completelydifferent. Jamia Binoria Town aur Lahore ki kisi masjid ke ulamaah ne film khuda kay lie ko rokney pe bht zor dia hai ..plus uske against brouhers aur pamphlets bhe print krwa ke masjid aur different places pe distribute karwae hain..pehli bat yeh ke yeh karne se film ki aur achi publicity hogae..marketing strong hogae..shoaib mansoor ka kam inn maulvees ne aur bhe aasan kar dia..geo aur jang ke bad aik nai publicity…kya yeh pamphlets read kar ke logo ne film nahi daikhi?? kya film band hogae??1 week se house full hai.. over croweded hain cinemas…mjhe buhat afsoos hota hai ke inn mualana logon ne apna image bht kharab kia hai poori society me…Lal masjid me jo abdul aziz sahib ne kia who sab ke samney hai..ab itni be-izati unko face karni hee parii…mene bht sare molvees ko cinema se nikaltey hue daikha….akhir kyun???????????????????????? Before commenting on this issue first tell me what is ISLAM. Being Sunni, Shia, Aehlay-Hadees, Brayalwi …… what?
There are too many version of Islam that’s why there is no conclusion to this issue that music is not allowed in Islam.
What I believe that Quran is Book of Allah (Words of God), and there is no version of this book and no alteration. If it’s in Quran that Music is prohibited then it is, without any question.
If it’s not then go and watch the movie. Because a movie can not change believe of a true Muslim? But yes you will find that Pakistan has now started development in Entertainment business.

I am an indian living in india…fundamentalism of any sort is wrong, whether perpetrated by a hindu or a muslim. To be very frank, it really don’t understand why religious fundamentalists every single time(in both the countries) have to jump and ask for a ban. One must be bold enough to see and think for himself/herself what is right and wrong. BTW i am a hindu. But feel proud when Sania Mirza represent my country or Zaheer Khan take your wickets in a match.
My country is a secular nation where all religions have the right and freedom to express themselves freely. And, it feels good to see people progressing, irrespective of which religion they belong. I have realised i don’t become a better indian if i keep bashing pakistan for no reason and same is true with the people living across the border. Hatred and hostility benifits no one, except the politicians…:-)

Allowing a Muslim man to marry a Christian or a Jewish woman, is an exceptional rule applied under special circumstances. And when a Muslim man marries a Christian or a Jewish woman, there is no problem, because he believes in all prophets, and all holy books. There will be no problem between him and his wife in this matter, especially that his religion -Islam- commands him to be fair with his wife even if she were Christian or Jewish. And any Muslim man going through such marriage should have strong belief in his faith, and should strongly abide by his religion.
The reason for forbidding a Muslim woman from marrying a non-Muslim, is that a Christian or a Jewish man believes only in his prophet, and doesn’t believe in prophet Mohamed Salla Allah Allih Wa Salam or any of the other prophets (blessing be upon them).
For example, when this Muslim woman, tries to teach her kids to love and respect all prophets and believe in all of them, her non-Muslim husband will not agree, because he believes only in his prophet. He will interfere in the way she raises her kids, and prevents her from raising them in an Islamic way. And here comes the real problem, because she will have only two options, whether she leaves the whole thing as it is, and does nothing about it -which will be an insult to her religion- or she argues about the matter, and this will sure lead to more marital problems.

Nida you are right, that even Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim women, but there are conditions under which a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim women. Dekho, A women has a name maria, and her husband’s name is ali, then the name of the wife will be maria ali. The children’s end name will also be kept Ali. Therefore the name of the house will become Ali’s family. So the children will also be Muslims, example can be seen from Imran Khan. The children always remain in father’s custody, if the couple gets divorced.
But if the Muslim woman marry a non-Muslim man, then the children will have to keep a Christian name and religion.
Hope you understood. What Irfan has mentioned is totally correct. Goto some Mosque and consult someone, they will explain you in details.

I believe Indian movies and shows should be banned from Pakistan becasue it interferes with the development of our own entertainment industry. Moreover it clashes to some extent with our culture and traditions. I could never figure out why some folks watch Indian movies and shows anyway- If your aim is to watch foreign movies, why not watch films from a variety of countries including Iran, China or South American nations. Incidentally a lot of the Iranian films are most interesting and dramatically moving. Sometimes I wonder if our media hasn;t become too focused on Indian media instead of trying to be a an independent entity.

After all this talk on the site I finally saw the film. The plot itself is a bit predictable and the acting is somewhat poor or B grade but it’s not as objectionable as I imagined. Shan as always gives a reasonable performance but he’s the only good actor in the film. The Indian actor who plays a more moderate Muslim scholar gives some inaccurate testimony based on controversial statements but people in Pakistan should be comfortable enough to discuss and if necessary confront inaccuracies without resorting to needless anger. After all it’s a movie and we need to develop our media. I’m more disturbed by the fact that this is a co production involving Indians because I believe strongly in establishing a solely Pakistani entertainment industry and Pakistani based media.

There are two debatable questions, raised in the whole movi. “Is there any room for Music in Muslim society or in other words what kind of music and up to what extent is tolorable.
A Muslim girl (though in the movi she was logically justified as a non-muslim) marry a Christen under any circumstances”.
Rest of the mivi is really fine. But those questions should open a healthy debate because we hope we are living in a literate society and Islam is religion of tolerance and is 100 percent capable to reply he questions raised logically and scientifically.
I think this film should not have been banned but those issues should have openly be discussed in the intellectuals and real Alims over the media.

Religious debates take a violent turn in Pakistan and many Muslim countries because we allow ourselves to be overly emotional. We need to eduacate people about how to critically examine information presented and form their own opinions. That’s not to say that being can’t be influenced by disingenious movies and entertainment. After seeing the movie, there are definitely two religious points which the producers have manufactures:
Again this is based on my understanding of Islamic tenets; No where in Islam can a Muslim woman marry a non Muslim man. Although a Muslim man may marry (though not encouraged) a non Muslim woman as long as she is a woman of the “book” meaning Jewish or Christian. As for the music debate, I really think it’s taken out of context. Music as long as is doesn;t lead to other questionable behaviour is not banned.
The whole point is that this is a movie, perhaps a B grade movie. Unfortunately most Pakistani movies and I would say almost all South Asian films lack any depth and are made for the general masses. That’s why most Pakistanis born abroad have long stopped watching films to which they cannot relate and offend their basic intellect. We have a great number of filmi songs which do nothing but appeal to a basic need for entertainment; some people watch foreign Indian films which are perhaps worse because they simply repeat the same old tired plot or copy Wesyern films which are repackaged in Indian culture. Many Pakistanis like myself cannot relate to Indian films and culture anyway. What are Pakistanis to do then? We should develop a film media which challenges our critical thinking and discusses aspects of our society while entertaining us. I am not threatened by the film Khuda Kay Liya. If it stimulates greater artistic freedom of thought without compromising our basic values, why not. As a nation we should be assure of ourselves, our identity our state religion and our ideology. The censors should make some suggestions before a film is made to avoid this type of unecessary controversy but on the whole the film really isn’t that controversial. As a villager from Sialkot in the Punjab, I think that locals there could easily discuss the merits and critique of the film without being overly offended.

Dear friends, one thing is clear crystal that music is prohibited in islam. there are vaious ahadite which clearly describe that music which makes you ghafil(ignorance of God Almighty) from Allah or the religion is not allowed in islam.
Although Hazrat Dawood(AS) was having a good voice that the birds sing with him(AS), but it dosen’t mean that Allah has allowed the music.
It is shown in the film that Maulana is ready for the prayer and the music is runing in his room, meaning that music is allowed which is a bad picture of Islam.
I think film should be banned
Becoz it is against the teachings of Islam
Think it with ur mind and heart both in the light of our sacred scripture

The movie is a HIt and shoudnt be banned India wants ban it because its better than any bollywood movie and makes sense.
What good Directors like Shoaib Mansoor tries to contribute shoudnt be demotivated.
Our failure to develope a good film industry has been our people itself whose sentiments burn their own country and fail to realise it even after what has happened over the years.
Let me quote the Verse ‘La Iqraha Fee Deen’
If no one believes this verse than you tell me if The Holy Quran Naozobillah can be wrong.
Just be a bit mature as always, the name which Paksitan has earned shouldnt vanish by our own comments and emotions.
Lets work on progressing our country rahter than to spend our precious time criticising it.

About this piece of garbage movie.. First things first.. All movies are haraam, this one especially because it spreads MISCONCEPTION ABOUT RELIGION.. DAUD(A.S) had a beautiful voice and he praised ALLAH with it AGREED, Now do we agree that after MUHAMMAD S.A.W we only FOLLOW what HE DID AND DONT DO WHAT HE S.A.W. forbade.. we dont follow any previous SHARIAH.. other wise in ADAM (A.S) tym u had to marry your sisters (from different pair) So shall we say INcest is now HALAAL? and even in starting period od Islam Sharaab was allowed and so was Riba (Interest).. Because things were not prohibbited at once it was done slowly and after 23 years of PROPHETHOOD we had the RELIGION IN PERFECT FORM with no ERRORS SUBHAN ALLAH.. so dont use HAZRAT DAUD (A.S) as an example, and SURAH BAQRAH forbids MUSLIM GIRLS MARRYING NON MUSLIMS, so all your points have been refuted and the reason it SHOULD HAVE BEEN BANNED (WHICH IT WASNT) was what if some people do get misconceptions? everyone is not educated enuff to make decision about religions thats why we have scholars!
