[digg=http://digg.com/design/Port_Tower_World_s_Second_tallest_Building_w_pics]The Port Tower is a building planned for Karachi, the financial capital of Pakistan. With collaboration from local and foreign investors, and the Karachi Port Trust. The Port tower will be 1,947 ft (593 m)[1] high. The height of the tower has special significance. It represents the independence year of Pakistan which is the year 1947. The tower is part of a complex which will be constructed on artificial islands in the shape of symbols of the flag of Pakistan. Which are, a crescent and a star. It will comprise a hotel, a shopping center, and an Expo center. The tower will be constructed on the crescent shaped island. With a viewing gallery it will offer a panoramic view of city’s coastline. When completed it will be the tallest building in Pakistan. The Port Tower will be developed on 10 acres waterfront site, off the Mai Kollachi expressway called the Karachi Waterfront. It has been designed by an international design team, led by the world’s 4th largest architectural practice, Aedas. Consortium partners MM Pakistan and Mott MacDonald would provide engineering services and architectural support expertise. The tower would provide world class office space with supporting, residential, conference, performance, retail and restaurant facilities.

I am absolutely not surprised to see the jealousy of Indians. This tower will remind you 1947 forever, when we got freedom from you.

I really don’t care what does or doesn’t go on in India. For a Pakistani such as me, India might as well be Laos or Colombia. Let’s worry about our own country and forget about picking fights with our neighbours- be they Afghans or Indians. If Karachi is improving good for us and if Mumbai is improving good for Indians. I hate to see comparisons between India and Pakistan- we are different countries with different circumstances and different people. Remember the British went to India (Calcutta) as early as the 1600s to establish their East India Company- they didn’t make it to the land and people of present day Pakistan until the mid 1800s. India may have had 400 years of British institutions, education and rule, we Pakistanis have had hardly one hundred years of British rule prior to independence so we shouldn’t be so surprised that our institutions arent;t as developed.

The port tower complex and mubarak centre are entirely different projects the port tower (karachi) is supported by Karachi Port Trust (KPT). Both consists of design very different from each other So NO need to mix them.
