Measuring a trim 13.1 mm (106.4 x 43.6 x 13.1mm) it’s not the lightest of phones on the market, but comes close enough at just 91 grams, the Nokia 6300 is “Like an impeccably tailored suit, says Kai Oistamo, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Phones, Nokia. Oistamo says the company believes the phone’s sophisticated good looks and feature set will place it “among our best selling models in 2007″. It’s not hard to see why. The 6300 is highlighted by a stainless steel frame that adds both design interest and strength. It’s a good looking phone, slim, light, made of quality materials (says Nokia) and packs in the sort of features that make a phone sell well. To begin, the screen is a full 2-inch QVGA display that promises to be crisp and detailed. The keypad is said to be ergonomic, while recessed buttons and an easy-to-use menu should combine to a nice feel and easy navigation. The 2 megapixel camera takes photos at 1280 x 960 pixel resolution and has an 8x zoom though apparently no flash, while onboard memory is a healthy 135MB before adding the expansion microSD cards available up to 2GB. The MP3 player supports MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and the phone has a built-in FM radio. Voice dialling, voice commands and voice recording combine to make the device willing to listen to you and the USB/PC synchronisation helps it talk to your PC. MMS messaging, a video player, push-to-talk and hands-free speaker phone capabilities round out the offering. The GPRS EDGE speed of 236.8Kbps may disappoint some but the battery life, rated at up to 3.5 hours talk-time and up to 14 days standby, certainly won’t. The Nokia 6300 is expected to begin shipping during the first quarter of 2007 with an estimated retail price of 250 euros before subsidies or taxes.
New on Nokia’s product list is the mid-range Nokia 6300 monoblock with 2 megapixel camera, voice control and healthy on-board storage, could become a volume seller.
